Student Prompt: Write a short (1-3 paragraph) response using one of the below bulleted outlines. Cite details from the book over the course of your response that serve as examples and support.

1. In the Introduction, Roach refers to cadavers as “our superheroes.” (10)

• What is it about cadavers that makes them “superheroes”? (topic sentence)
• Identify at least three specific “superpowers” Roach feels cadavers have and how these powers have helped the living.
• Conclude your essay by explaining why Roach chooses to frame the dead in such a way in her book.

2. In Chapter 4, we see lab researchers adjusting a cadaver’s limbs into position before testing.

• How does Roach equate the treatment of cadavers in this way to the care of living populations who need such care? (topic sentence)
• Relate 3-5 moments in the book that may provoke an empathetic response in the reader as they may be reminded of a loved one or other experience.
• In your conclusion, discuss why Roach would deliberately provoke an emotional response from her readers when dealing with these sensitive topics.
